Default The Baby Runner!

i went out with steve(tooRisky) today to take a look at the 85 4runner he is going to buy to replace his that was in the accident, while we were there we picked this up. the guy selling the 4runner to steve is also throwing in a 89 4runner for free. steve passed the savings along to me and has generously give me the 89. the plans are to fix it, (it needs a new tranny), and make it my DD then sell my Honda to finish the motor swap on my big runner. the inside is fairly clean but can for sure use some TLC. the outside is clean except for the passenger side front grill where the previous owner hit a dog. but the tires look to be brand new.

the good:
FREE!
Clean
no rust

the bad:
bad tranny
3.0
262,000 miles

All Toyota 4Runners '85-and-older had solid front axles and were leaf-sprung from the factory.

1985 is the 'golden year' for most people, as it was the first year for the 22RE (EFI) and the last year for SFA.

so its been 10 months BUT the truck is finally on the road. tranny has been fixed, all electrical issues have been sorted out (or at least i know what i need to do to fix it), passed smog this morning with flying colors, and is legally registered in my name and is insured....

MY god i need to regear... 4.10s + 31s +3.0 + auto = SUCK..... luckily i have 5.29s waiting to go in

things left to do:

wash/polish/wax
Fix grill
replace "door Control" unit... so the passenger side window works again
replace corner light
buy/install H4 headlight conversion
install HIDs
install new gears
Oil Change
install the AALs in the rear

Update:
i've been running 5.29s in it for a a couple weeks now. the speedo is off by about 13% but it has gobs of power. (not as much power as my 5sp behind a 3.4..... but a HUGE improvement over the 4.10s before) sitting on the freeway at 66 (80 indicated) i am turning 2800 RPM with over drive off, kick over drive off and it jumps to 4k and starts pulling away. i pulled apart the front diff to check it out, i was told it was a TruTrac but come to find out its really a lockright so now my "daily driver" is locked front and rear with 5.29s i've been too poor to do acutally fill ups so i am not sure what i am getting for mileage. i would venture to guess about 14-16mpg.
I got the arm rest re-done and it looks a billion time better than it did. one of my shop neighbors is an upholstery guy
I also intalled a set of Hella 500s i had laying around my shop.

Still need to:
install HIDs
fix minor electrical issues.
fix/replace the grill
install new shocks
install AAL in the rear (it will require new ubolts so i'll wait and do a ubolt flip kit and relocate the lower shock mounts.)

OK... HIDs installed tonight. This is with the Ebay H4 conversion (see elton thread) with the Diamond housing. I thought about going euro spec but said screw it and went with diamond.

These are the 55w 8000k kit. I've lost Highbeams but there is enough output i dont know if i'll miss it.

HIDs alone

stock hella 500s alone

Both hella 500s and the HIDs. These pics dont do it justice... there is a S-Ton of light...

lets see what's changed... i've dumped the 5.29 for 4.56s.. much better on gas. when i drove to CA last june i got 21.1mpg setting a new record for a 3.0 auto.

i got a stock skid plate for the front

still havent fixed the passenger side windows issue...

i installed dual oil filters: http://www.yotatech.com/f116/3-0-dua...talled-215913/

i've added trailgear sliders

oh it now has 274k on it. i'm almost to 3/4 of a million miles.
