Okay well here we go on shortening my dana 44 I will post it step by step fill in with pics later.

First I cycled my steering to check how much room I had to shorten so I would clear my leaf springs. So I figured out I could go 6" in total take out. As I have center output on my t-case I'm only cutting it off the driver side long shaft side. I then remove my axle pulled out my axle shaft brakes ect.. I now measured out 6"on the axle tube.If you dont know the axle tube slides into the spidle about an inch it's different on ever axle so dont think that is right for yours. I then proceeded to measure a center point to reatach my spindle later and have it match where it was before. I cut the axle tube from the spindle as close as posible. Now I have to grind the spindle flat and the weld off as I will have to cut a 90 degree section out on the tube that is left in the spindle so I can chisle it out..more to come tomarrow...

you DO know that 44 tubes slip out of the center section right? you might have gotten a good one that was rosette welded to the center section. be alot easier than doing it on the knuckle end.

okay the axle has been back together for a while havnt had the shaft done yet. I was going to have the place in portland do it (can't think of the name), but i have heard nothing but bad things. There is a place in vancouver I have heard good things about but havnt had time to get ahold of them. I could cut it down myself but the resplining has to be done by a shop. I'm not sure that they will still warrenty the shaft if I cut it myself. May talk to our machnist at work can do it. he said he could do my knuckles for reverse high steer. The nissan is on hold right now. I have to fix the jeep, get the last few things done to the yota 4 now, Do a full tune up on the durango plus 3" lift and 33's, and finally I can get back to it I have everything almost for it just need time that i dont have.

lol umm long story short got it all done but my measurement was off 1" due to my marks getting rubbed away an saying f-it guess. In the process when i got my small block i managed to get a waggy 44 so i'm just gunna use that instead the other will lay around for parts or any one that needs it as i dont now.
