Okay so I was thinking today... The grand cherokees came with my same motor my durango has factory right? the 5.9l v8 360... they still only used the dana 30 under the front correct? I know dana 30 doesn't have great strength but if they used it factory on them wouldnt i be able to use it to do my sas on my durango? I mean i would eventually swap for 44 or 60's but just to get the ball rolling and price would be soooooo cheap...I want factory looking coil swap any ways it a tow rig but i need it to also be able to do recovery's...

ya um just keep it ifs for now and do the swap right. thats a lot of power and a heavy rig for a lil d30.
and I know you so you would probaly lock it

I'd be ok with you swapping in a Dana 30 for now until you can afford a better axle.

I know what IFS being done for feels/looks like...... get that crap out from under it ASAP.

It doesn't matter if it uses the same motor. What matters is whether or not it uses the same t-case. Different t-case, different pumkin drop for the front. Second, why not find a used dana 44 for 500 bucks and do it right the first time. As it is, everything will be custom for a SAS on a Durango. You won't actually save any money if you put something bigger under it later, you will cost yourself more in the end.

Like they say,
'It's like throwing good money after bad'

I think the ZJs also came with a 5.2L V8 in addition to the 5.9L, not that it matters...

thats the point the zj runs the exact same drive train looking back i should have considered them but didnt know they had the 5.9l... The dana 44 would/will bolt in the exact same place as the 30 so i wouldnt be losing money at all or back tracking...Yes all is custom but really all i have to build is steering, coil buckets, link brackets, links, and a drive shaft when i get to it....I can get a dana 30 all day long for $100, I work for a fab shop so the rest is 90% free so I would be into it maybe $200 vrs. just the dana 44 at $500. I belive your probly thinking more of the coil spring wieght rating an i'm not sure how much the zj's wiegh i know i weigh in at 6000lbs. but i could use ram springs if that were the case. My rear axle needs an soa any ways so theres enough lift to match the sas.

so i guess i need the jeep guys to jump in an give me a run down on dana 30 history what came with low an high pinion an if the coil buckets are the same on the xj zj axles or not ect..
